How many veneers are needed? Planning the extent of treatment
The number of veneers depends on the smile assessment and each tooth. Two clinical cases show why individual plans differ.

Is there a standard number?
No. Veneers are not selected as a standard package. Assessment considers the desired change, teeth visible in the smile, colour, proportions, position and the relationship between the arches. Each tooth included in treatment needs an indication.
What do two different cases show?
In the orthodontic retreatment case, the final stage included 20 ceramic veneers: 10 upper and 10 lower. This describes that patient’s plan, not a recommendation for everyone.
In the spacing and trauma-related discolouration case, treatment combined composite veneers on the canines, ceramic veneers on teeth 12, 21 and 22, and a crown on tooth 11. Root canal treatment and internal bleaching concerned tooth 21. The number of restorations and their type are separate decisions.
Why consider alternatives?
Dental and gum health are assessed first. Orthodontics, whitening or composite restorations may address the concern, sometimes in combination. Not every visible tooth needs a restoration.
How does a mock-up help?
Planning and a mock-up help discuss the proposed shape before definitive treatment. A trial does not guarantee the outcome or replace assessment of function and tooth structure.
What should I ask at the consultation?
Why is each tooth included? What alternatives are available? How much tooth structure needs to be removed? What maintenance or repairs may be needed? The decision follows examination and discussion of benefits and limitations.
